What do Shaunti and Sean Lowe, former star of the Bachelor, have in common??

Exciting changes at Patheos! For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Patheos is a huge site for discussions about and within communities of people of all faiths and beliefs. I am an advice columnist for their Family Channel, and just hit the six-month mark of doing it! I have been excited by the vision of the folks who run the Family Channel to create a place that will feel safe not just for people of faith, but also for those who don’t share the Christian faith of myself or many others on the channel.  It is a great opportunity to draw and serve others in our culture, who need these resources.  And now we have a really big draw starting!

Sean Lowe, known as the “Virgin Bachelor” when he was on the TV show, is now a newlywed (married to the woman he chose on the show) and is now blogging at the Family Channel too! He really impressed me with his firm convictions and his gentle but clearway of sharing that he follows Jesus.  And the guy has a HUGE following in popular culture; including, presumably, people that would otherwise be unlikely to go on a site like Patheos or go to the Family Channel. But his blog will give them a chance to see these other resources they might not have been aware of before. I’m hoping that they look around while they are there, and see my column and the other blogs that are there now and which the Family Channel will be adding!

As some of you know, I used to be a nationally-syndicated newspaper columnist, and I LOVE having the opportunity to speak beyond the walls of the church and into the broader culture. It has been almost exactly five years since my nationally-syndicated newspaper column became a casualty of the recession and the newspaper-industry crash… so I’m really excited to at least have the potential to bring some of my research back into the popular culture at large.
