It’s Book Release Day!!
OK, don’t laugh, but at the same time that I’m celebrating something momentous, I also want to cry! Do you know that feeling?
The day is finally here when Jeff and I launch the updated editions of For Women Only and For Men Only after 9 years of FWO being in print, 2 million copies being sold in the series, in 22 different languages, and more than a year of work on the updates and recording the DVD studies to go along with them. After all of that, these books are getting a rebirth!
This is a day to celebrate, so why am I so emotional all of a sudden?
I think it has something to do with the realization that none of this – NONE OF THIS – was something I could have accomplished. It was the hand of God from beginning to end. With each book I write, there is a prayer team praying that God would anoint the words to open people’s eyes to His life changing truth… and that is exactly what God has done. It is astounding to get so many thousands of emails saying, “I had no idea how much I was hurting my spouse, but now I know we can make it!” or even, “I cancelled the divorce lawyer.” That is simply and only God opening someone’s eyes. What an amazing thing, that He would allow me to be a part of that!
As I was speaking at the annual Hawaiian Islands Ministries conference this past week, God brought home even more clearly what amazing things he’s done. The other speakers at the HIM conferences (this year and past years) include those who have been my heroes for years. People like Jim Burns. Gary Chapman. Tony Campolo. The list goes on and on. This year, I shared a little bit of the research for my NEXT book at the speakers’ lunch and the next morning while Jeff and I were having breakfast at the hotel, Gary Chapman came over to ask me about my findings and when my book would be out. Gary Chapman!! Another speaker told me that he kept copies of the books on hand and gave them out to everyone he knows who gets married. After I spoke to a rowdy room of teenagers, a large group of cool teenage boys hung back to thank me for helping them to understand girls and giving them hope for their own marriages someday.
I think the reason I’m so emotional is that as these books re-launch, I feel like King David, when he essentially cried out to the Lord, “Who on earth am I, that you would use ME?”
So as we launch the updated books, I’m excited for today! But having seen what God has done in the past ten years, I’m even more excited to see what God has in store in the future. Thanks to all of you for joining me on the journey and being a part of it. It means more to me than you can know.
